The Regency is dead! Historical romance is dead! Publishers and editors have been making such bold statements for decades. And yet, authors keep writing them, readers keep buying them, and on we go. Do I think historical romance is dead? Not at all. Do I think it'll ever die? Nope.
The Regency has changed over the years, sure. But what doesn't change, evolve, grow? With the emergence of erotic romance as a popular genre, the Regency is making a comeback, and I think the reason why people are reading again is the same reason why I, for one, am writing it. Beneath the suave veneer of the Ton is a wonderfully scandalous world of seduction, desire, and intrigue. I enjoy exploring that world, and seeing the prim and proper debutante act a little less "proper" when she gets caught in the dark, the handsome gentleman be a bit less "gentlemanly" when he takes off his cravat. It's a great dynamic to play with!
